Can't say that I've heard of Sarah Larnach's work before I read this recent post about illustrated bottles of Becks on BitchBuzz. Apparently Larnach once lived with singing artist Ladyhawke as she was gaining popstar fame, and since has created various album cover art and music video animations for her. Larnach's work has a touch of beauty and magic, and her use of watercolors are vibrant and full of energy. My favorites out of all her work are the above illustration, and this adorable work to the right. And now you know all about my love for kittens and consoles (as if it wasn't obvious before).

This weekend's drawings

Holy crap it's been way too long since I've drawn enough to make one of these posts. Last week was loaded with stress bombs, so I took advantage of the weekend to sit in the sun, draw, and watch lots and lots of Mad Men. One could argue that I'm not going anywhere new with these puppies (and I should really start to push myself to color them), but after two or three months of not drawing I'm just getting my groove back, so to speak.

Shout-out to Mr. Andreas Schuster and Jacob Ferguson (who's painting I purchased a week ago) for the recent jolt of inspriation!

What a week. Working has been pretty rough the past few days, leaving me a bit stressed around the edges. That said, I came to the stunning epiphany after seeing Jennifer's Body that anything, including work, is better than Jennifer's Body. So I'm doing okay.

Oh, what's with that ridiculous Wario and Waluigi animated .gif up there you say? To tell the truth, I was so motivated by the ridiculous (but fun) mashup track "I Know You Want Wario Stadium" by Valley of Walls that I just had to register for a Blingee account to create an appropriate illustration. Super Smash Bros is a full mashup album of videogame tracks layered with Pitbull, Young Joc, Rich Boy, and more, and is available free to download for all you gamers out there heading "to-da-club" tonight. It's all pretty silly, but fun for sharing around the webs on a Friday afternoon.

My favorite? Hard to say.  "99 Problems Zone" has some Sonic the Hedgehog beats which I tend to gravitate to, "Rap de Chocobo" is a lot of jumpy fun, but at the end of the day I never imagined that mashing "Soulja Boy" over "One Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy VII was something possible in this world. I mean, wow:

Deweaponizing the gun - the gun as a creative tool

Walton Creel's work titled "Deweaponizing the Gun" features a set of images created by bullet holes. Shooting a .22 caliber rifle into aluminum, Creel creates works that flip around the concept of guns as violent, hurtful devices and instead flirts with the idea of guns as a constructive tool of creation. The results feel somewhat like a practice in steampunk cross-stitching, and I really love how the animals stand out in his work.
